Sprained or strained a muscle, ligament, joint or tendon?
Your personal physiotherapy begins with a comprehensive evaluation of functional limitations and areas of pain. Our team of expert physiotherapists will design a treatment plan based on your work-related needs and goals. We take a team approach and will consult with your employer and case manager, if necessary. Throughout your physiotherapy treatment, we will work hard to help you return to all normal functional activities and address any underlying causes and prevent re-injury.
When you are ready for discharge, you will receive a personalised home exercise programme to allow you to stay healthy on the job and further enhance your rehabilitation.
On The Spot Southern Cross Easy-Claim
Present your Southern Cross membership card at reception at the end of your appointment and (if your policy covers it) part or all of your appointment fee can be claimed directly from Southern Cross at our reception. Easy!
What we do
We provide personalised physiotherapy treatments. Your physio will take a full history and examine and assess your sprain or strain. They will explain your injury diagnosis in a user-friendly way and often use a model or an iPad to give you an in-depth view of your injury and answer any questions you may have.
Your physiotherapist will create a plan of treatment for you including:
- Soft tissue massage and mobilisation techniques
- Joint mobilisation and manipulation
- Electrotherapy (ultrasound, interferential and TENS),
- Taping and bracing to protect your injury (we have a wide range of braces available)
- Acupuncture, dry needling, cupping
- Biomechanical assessment of movement
- Education (helping you to prevent it happening again)
- Exercise prescription – from home-based to gym programmes. We have our own Functional Training Studio and access to full gym facilities.
How long will it take?
Your first appointment is normally up to 40 minutes, and appointments after that are normally up to 20 minutes. Longer appointments are also available, talk to your physiotherapist. Every patient is unique and takes different amounts of time to heal, which is why everyone is given a tailored physiotherapy treatment to suit their needs. Your physio will keep discussing with you the healing process of your injury to guide you through your journey to recovery.
Do I need a GP referral?
You don’t, however, if you have been to see your GP or hospital already, please bring any paperwork with you.
What about ACC?
We can put a claim through to ACC on your behalf. Everyone in New Zealand is eligible for comprehensive injury cover from ACC.
Most physical injuries are covered if they’re caused by:
- An accident, whether it happened at home, on the sports field, at work or in a motor vehicle crash
- Injuries caused by external forces to your body (eg. gravity, or falling onto the ground)
- A condition that comes on gradually because of your work (gradual process claim – this must be initiated by your GP to get it registered with ACC)
- Medical treatment – treatment injury
- Sexual assault or abuse
There is a specific definition of ‘injury’ in the Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation and Compensation (IPRAC) Act 2001, which is the law that ACC must apply when considering applications for claims and assistance. ACC has to be satisfied that you have suffered a personal injury.
Common injuries that ACC cover for physiotherapy include:
Sprains, strains, fractures, dislocations, contusions (bruises), work-related gradual process claims (these need to be initiated by your GP)
To see if your claim for injuries could be covered by ACC, see their website acc.co.nz
